Senior Year Checklist and Important Dates to Remember!

Access College and Career Action Network for resources to help you reach your college and career goals.


Go to Michigan.gov/careers and research schools that offer the curriculum you are interested in.


The Michigan College Access Portal (MichiganCAP) is a statewide initiative which provides free support for all students and families in Michigan to simplify the process of transitioning from high school to college and career.


Go to Collegeboard.com and research college majors and career profiles to assist you in choosing a college/university.


Start attending college visits. Make sure to ask questions about the curriculum you are interested in.


Go to the Occupational Outlook Handbook online and research jobs related to your area of interest.


Begin the College Application process in the summer before your senior year. (Check out the Common Application)


Write your essay. Have someone proof it and make sure you write your essay with your own "voice"


Plan for Teacher Recommendations. Give them a Teacher Recommendation Form to help them write the best possible letter for you. Keep in mind deadlines so they get to the schools on time.

November 1 is a deadline for many four year universities. Plan Ahead!


Monitor your applications online. The Guidance office requires 5 BUSINESS DAYS for processing in our office. Plan on 3-4 weeks for colleges and universities to process your application
