After a year long process of garnering feedback from students, staff, community members and valued stakeholders, Gull Lake Community Schools has moved forward with its latest series of of device purchases utilizing bond money. The student voice was loud and clear in the request for a device that provided the opportunity for a pathway to attain the 5 C’s of Technology; Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, Creativity, and Content availability.   As a result, each GLHS student will be provided a Dell Chromebook to use throughout the school year.  This device will allow students the opportunity to tackle to 5 C’s at anytime, anyplace, and at their own pace.

The majority of iPads previously utilized at GLHS will be repurposed to the K-5 buildings for student use individually and in small groups. GLCS appreciates the continued support as we prepare students for the challenges of learning in the Digital Age.

We give students personalized practice recommendations and instant feedback on how they’re doing. If they’re curious, we also have a short video about how the new SAT is different.

Our system is designed to help students where they need it. Check it out yourself and we’ll automatically send you updates about important changes and SAT dates.

M-STEP replaces the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) that previously took place in the fall (2013). One major change to our state assessment process is that the test will now be administered online, instead of a paper/pencil format.

The M-STEP will include summative assessments designed to measure student growth effectively for today’s students. English language arts and mathematics will be assessed in grades 3–8, science in grades 4 and 7, and social studies in grades 5 and 8.  It also includes the Michigan Merit Examination in 11th grade which consists of the ACT Plus Writing, WorkKeys, and M-STEP summative in English language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.  More information will follow from your student's individual building on the specific dates and times that testing will take place.

To assist in this transition, please take the opportunity to visit http://aware.22itrig.org/ , which is a great resource for students and families.

The Gull Lake District School Improvement Survey is an integral part of the continuous process of evaluation for our district and its programs. It provides school leaders and teachers a lens into the thinking and perceptions of our stakeholders. Careful analysis of the results enriches understanding of areas of strength and effectiveness as well as those areas that possibly need improvement.

The survey results will enable our school leaders to measure stakeholders’ attitudes and help target improvement strategies focused on student achievement as well as school and district effectiveness.
Survey access can be found at www.gulllakecs.org under the tab Quick Links - District School Improvement Survey.

Thank  you in advance for your participation.
